Okay, Well... Links Next Time

  • Dec. 4th, 2009 at 5:54 PM
Dude. We got up to 70 degrees yesterday. In New England. In December. I'm scared of what I may wake up to tomorrow as it got into the 50's today, since Nature has the cruelest sense of humor. (Which means she'll probably wait to unleash the blizzard until my birthday.)

The day before yesterday was a Living Things/Killers/Tea Party day. Yesterday was a Lifestyle/VNV Nation/Planet Funk day. I'm not sure what today is yet, or what any of this means, except that I'm quite happily indulging in uninterrupted musical binges. So clearly it must be the holidays, when other people are busy leaving me to my own devices.

And so I ramble a bit about recent introspection and stuff. It`s my right, I`m officially old now. )

Now I think I'm going to go back to guitar for a bit before beads again. Because it is necessary.
I forgot to mention that the ranch is in the northern part of Israel. This part of the story tells of us going from about as far north as you can get in Israel, to as far south, over the course of a couple days.

So I Guess I'll Be Pre-Ordering...

Dear S-E,

I will never be free.

Your willing prisoner

(Posty bits and link dump coming soon, really.)

Whoot

Episode 9 of There Will Be Brawl absolutely deserves its own post. Oh my god. One more to go after this, which makes me... so happy. Like this episode. Awesome like awesomeness.

Spontaneousness-ness

  • Nov. 28th, 2009 at 8:42 PM
Utterly spontaneous bit of writing. No idea why I'm sharing at this point, but people keep bitching at me to share more. *grin* Bet you're sorry now!

Yeah, sorry, no porn. Original characters. Snippet and really nothing more. Fits into my mythology.

I will come for you like Death... )

I am an Ungrateful Bitch--With Pie!

There's a new A Life Well Wasted! Go listen! And look at that kick-ass poster, damn. No wonder it's already sold out. Some great stuff as usual, especially about the tortured souls who run Desert Bus for Hope--which by the way raised $132,000+ this year. Holy shit. Comes real close to making me want to do something stupid and torturous to use as an excuse for raising money for Child's Play.

(As an aside: don't get me wrong, I still hate the wet, sticky, loud little monsters known as children. *grin* But I am a big advocate for video games being sincerely important for pain management and stress relief, because they damn well got me through shitty times. Besides, kids who are forced to survive something that would shatter most adults and come out better because of it? I can only support the idea that they might find aid in games as well. I just... don't ever want to be around them. Ahem.)

Okay, actually starting to slowly get back around to many e-mails that I owe and comments. So many comments. And things to send out, guh. It'll all get done, though.

Today is a lovely little food holiday in the States. I think it's called Thanksgiving, but I only know it as Stuff Yourself Stupid Day, so whoot. I spent Tuesday and Wednesday morning cooking, for whatever reason--it's only Cassie and me who are here to eat it tonight, but that means more left-overs for us! Almost totally non-traditional: turkey sausages with cranberry sauce (made from scratch, why yes I am fabulous thank you) as relish, sweet and savory baked sweet potatoes, sweet potato and maple tart drenched in real maple syrup just before serving, and of course PUMPKIN PIE... ala Foster. *snort* (Pumpkin pie made with egg nog in place of milk.) And now there's brandy and cinnamon egg nog. Heh. I have a feeling all of this food is going to cause some painful shocks to my abdomen anyway, so why not be prepared with the alcohol. And games. Good thing I got a lot done this morning, since the rest of today is probably just going to be giving thanks to two specific console manufacturers. (Fuck you, Microsoft.)

If we must do "that thing", I'm grateful for too many things to list, and it would be sappy and stupid anyway. If you're reading this and we communicate in any way, then I'm grateful for you. And the rest, you probably already know. Heh. ("I am grateful for plastic, for my action figures could not exist without it. I am grateful for thumbs, for they are necessary for most things...")

Also, I am rather blindly learning Milkshape. Why? ...It's best not to talk about it now. *snort* Oh why do I do these things to myself...

Anyway, Happy Stuff Yourself Stupid Day to us US folk, and Happy Watch Those Americans Stuff Themselves Even Stupider Day to everyone else. I'm sure a link dump will be along... at some point.

5 MORE YEARS

  • Nov. 24th, 2009 at 9:33 AM
Have been trying to think of something topical to post for World of Warcraft's 5-year anniversary, and decided to dig through my livejournal and track down my first post about playing WoW back in 2004:

"Damn.

World of Warcraft is addicting. I'm this lv. 6 Dwarven hunter named Moscha who does nothing more than get quests, kill things, and ogle Mounts that cost frighteningly large amounts of gold, and yet somehow I'm having fun. And to think, this is only the first day... I can't wait until I can start, you know, getting legitimate armor and weapons. Whoa."

Awwww. And now it's two expansions later, level 6 Moscha is a distant memory, and I'm working at a game company. Oh how times change! EDIT: Feel free to post your own in the replies, I love reading these. :)

Convention Survival: Successful

  • Nov. 23rd, 2009 at 4:54 PM
I slept until noon today. That was utterly fucking necessary. And the first time I've done so in well over a year, so hey.

First of all, I want to say that the company throughout the whole convention was awesome. Another necessity was being around "my own kind" for a while and seeing friends, and I do feel a lot better because of it. Overall, the experience was a good one. I must stress this. I'm glad to have gone and it was good to see friends and just enjoy the atmosphere... even if cosplayers are incredible bathroom hogs. Heh.

But I fear there are rather loud complaints to be made. More than just the 2:30 AM time slots (even if that was explained later as being partially the fault of a Google Docs crash, I'd have been a lot less pissed off if someone had explained that earlier) was the fact that the OrgLIX panel was not in the book at all. It was still on the separate schedule sheet, just not in the book. So I didn't bring one home, fuck it, not interested. The people who actually showed up made up for this somewhat. But I'm still not interested in attending again. After months of trying to wring answers out of them via e-mail and then this... I'm not investing my money into this place anymore.

The panels themselves were better than we'd expected. There were people! Not many, but all of the Crisis Perverted give-aways got handed out and almost all of the OrgLIX goodie bags. (I will be holding a few for people who quite deserve them; the rest... I'm not sure yet.) We were pretty well exhausted so details are probably lost... but I do recall this hot chick in a corset sitting next to us. *grin*

As stated, everything else was good. Schala an I probably ate way too much excellent food, I braved the coffee bar (I still fucking hate Starbucks but hell, this will make my third and fourth ever Starbucks purchase and that was lovely chai), and we just had to attempt the Host Club. Also good food there... and chocolate cake. It's hard to go wrong with chocolate cake and several hosts stopping by to entertain. Heh. I would suggest a stripping and/or cross-dressing element, next time...

And yes, other things had to be bought. I'd have snapped up a Master Creatures Bahamut and a Red XIII if I'd found them, but alas no one had any (and we were among the first in the dealer's room). As it was, I picked up a couple of small KOS-MOS figures (with the intention to repaint/slightly remodel one for T-elos... but I'm not sure I want to now, as I am odd that way), the FF7 Play Arts Sephiroth (already had the Advent Children version; no I'm not sure who will get to ride Hardy Daytona now), Toy Soldier (the doujinshi... it's special to me, okay?) and two geeky shirts. I'd been wanting this one for a while, and when we spotted this there was no question that we would be buying. Of course a good chunk of that money saved will be going toward some shiny geeky things that were not available at the convention. As I am stupid and cannot be bothered to save for things.

Eight hours of train riding both ways was softened by a PSP, a DS, and Road Trip of the Living Dead, finally. Zellie, that book was fucking awesome. It was even more awesome because I used to live in the area they were meandering through, and boy did they get details right. I will never be able to say this again: werewolf/zombie sex is incredibly entertaining.

Still haven't caught up on game news yet, but I sure as hell caught one thing. Dear Nomura and the KH team in general... you need to stop making me adore Xigbar and Braig quite so much.

Whoot, Alive

  • Nov. 22nd, 2009 at 9:26 PM
Back. Convention survival! More of an update after I achieve unconsciousness and have a chance to properly put it all into words.

(Of course I bought things. Oddly, quite a bit less than I'd planned to. I suppose I'd better take that as a good sign--to buy more now. ...Ahem.)

TV wtf

  • Nov. 22nd, 2009 at 12:51 PM
I flipped channels for a little bit last night before bedtime.
How do people stand to just watch tv by channel flipping anymore? There are now approximately a billion channels, plus duplicates in non-digital and digital, sometimes with one duplicate being 'better' in that it's full wide screen, so even when you do find something to try to watch you can't be sure that you're watching it on the right version of its channel.
Commercials... I can't believe how many there are. Like, in my head, I know that 1/3rd of the programming is commercials, but I just don't recall there being that many before...
And not being able to pause and go get a drink without missing anything... man, I'm spoiled.

So since I was flipping, I thought I would try to watch something I don't normally see, and SNL has had at least 3 funny sketches in the past several years that I've bothered to go watch online, so I thought maybe I was missing something and I'd try watching it. It's good to know that no, I am not missing anything. It was actually both painful and boring to watch, and I'm pretty sure they spent more time showing still pictures of the cast than trying to do humor. I shall resume requiring the internet to filter SNL down to the once-a-year good bit.

So, in conclusion, get off my lawn. :)
